Now And Then - One Year On. Hard to believe that fact but it's here.
Joining Andy and Tom (as he did a year ago upon release) again is Mitch Axelrod for Episode 265. Mitch is the author of Beatletoons, Co-Host of the "Fab 4 Free 4 All" Podcast and excellent FB group.
Mitch also helped produce a video on the popular channel Parlogram about the Beatles US cartoons. As Mitch wrote the book - it was an excellent choice. Congrats! Link is below.
We tackled A LOT in this episode. How does Mitch feel the song sounds a year later? Does it have staying power? It's inclusion now in Paul's live shows. It's legacy, how it will stand next to 'Free As A Bird', 'Real Love', all of it.
We discuss recent Beatles News, Beatles Marketing Strategies & Product, (Gnomes & Cubes Oh My!) and towards the end Mitch gives us HIS top 10 Worst Solo Paul songs. (A show we did a few weeks back but Mitch was unable to join).

Welcome To November 2Legs Listeners!
For our first new show of the month we revisit a series we did a few weeks back called "Divided Albums." This time we chose that oft-neglected and overlooked Spring 1976 LP Wings at The Speed of Sound. This album routinely ranks pretty low in the Macca/Wings canon by most fans/critics because of its paint by numbers democratic approach. Despite having two huge hit singles in 'Silly Love Songs' (US #1) and 'Let 'Em In' (US #3). Which makes the album kind of an anomaly in his career. We both think it's a fine album but in the career of Paul McCartney some albums will naturally outshine others. Does it divide the fanbase? Probably. How do you rank the tracks and the album overall? At long last we finally got around to recording this one! Author and Music Journalist Mr. Eoghan Lyng (Culture Sonar/Stripped), U2 On Track, George Harrison In The 1970s, joins Andy and Tom for Episode 261. In Part III of the Paul and George relationship we examine their mainly George's icy comments directed at Paul between the years 1982 and 1988.
A lot happened during this interval of time. Yoko, George and Ringo discovered the infamous "McCartney Clause" in 1983 setting off a series of lawsuits which ultimately resulted in Paul not attending the Beatles 1988 Induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
George's comments on Broad Street, George's continued projects with HandMade Films as well as his commercial success with Cloud Nine are discussed in this episode with Eoghan.
We will likely wrap up this series sometime in 2025 with a fourth and final installment which will carry us through the 1990s, Anthology, George's untimely passing in 2001, culminating with the celebration of life that was/is the Concert For George in November 2002.

Hi! This week Andy and Tom are very pleased to have Super Fan "Dino V" join us for a chat about the November 2001 release of Driving Rain. It's an album that gets a lot of chat on McCartney fan pages/sites - mostly negative.
We contextualise the time period from whence it came. Discuss reasons why it gets the bad rap it has received 23 years on since it's release. 'Freedom', 9/11, The Heather factor. Too long of a record.
All these points and more are discussed! It was an album that we (Andy & Tom) were majorly excited for in 2001 when it came out. But it hasn't aged well with later day epics such as Chaos and Creation In The Backyard, Memory Almost Full, Electric Arguments and New.
Dino also gives us a background into his super Macca fandom. (He's truly hardcore! Having met Paul & Linda on several occasions). Having chats like this are good because it does give us a reason to go back and listen and see if our opinions have changed with time or have stayed the same.

A topic much discussed on our show, but we've never done a proper Top 20 Countdown of Macca's B-Sides. Partly in reply to our wonderful friend Beatley Tone who did a fabulous ranking of his own. Tom and David did one back in the pre-Andy era but for E258 Andy and Tom revisit our favourite 20 Macca B-Sides.
Some of them are so damn good they should be A Sides! We obviously agree on a good chunk but differ on a few too! All Paul. All The Time.

We as Macca fans are really in the golden age of books being published that just focus solely on the man's solo career. We waited decades for it but over the last 10 + years we have been spoiled. (Perasi, Kozinn/Sinclair, Blaney, Montgomery, Benitez, Allan) etc. Joining us for E257 is Ian Derbyshire. He is the author of the new book Macca In The Long Noughties: Paul McCartney tracks, life and tours 1998-2009.
Ian tells Andy and Tom what inspired him to focus on this specific period and why we feel it's a welcome addition to the library. It's an interesting period because it of course journeys a life without Linda. The book is not just all music either.
There are personal stories included here, the Heather Mills era covered quite extensively. A very detailed approach on the tours during this era particularly the European gigs.
Among other things, Ian chronicles public appearances Paul made, a very nice chronology to open each year. A quick and enjoyable read about a "recent" era in Macca-World.
Ian started a thread on the Hoffman Forums polling fans which was the best Macca record during this era. Link is here. Vote!
